Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays, which includes the panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth as well as the bite-wing x-ray series for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth.

Dental Implants:
Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures.

Crowns & Bridges:
Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When decay in a tooth has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed, crowns are often used to restore the tooth.

Root Canal Therapy:
Root canals are tiny passageways that branch off from beneath the top of the tooth, coursing their way vertically towards the underlying bone until they reach the tip of the tooth root. Root Canal Therapy is indicated for teeth with severe decay which has reached the pulp chamber (blood supply) of the tooth or when the pulp of the tooth has been exposed. Root canal therapy is a great alternative to extraction and in certain cases can help you maintain an otherwise hopeless tooth.

Toothaches:
Toothaches can be a symptom of one or more problems in the mouth. Often sensitivity arises due to erosion of the tooth by bacteria. a simple cleaning and fluoride treatment can stop initial decay in its tracks. Severe sensitivity to temperature changes such as cold or heat as well as sensitivity to  sweets should be brought to the attention of your dentist as they may be symptoms of active tooth decay. Pain or discomfort on biting can be a symptom of severe tooth decay in which the infection has spread to the pulp or into the surrounding tissues of the tooth. Pain or discomfort on biting can also be a symptom of a harmful change or habit in your bite, this is termed malocclusion. Grinding and clenching are frequently undiagnosed problems that can increase your risk of tooth decay and sensitivity. Tooth decay is a progressive disease that does not go away on its own. All teeth are composed of three general zones, moving from the most exterior inwards there is - The outer enamel which protects the underlying dentin and the inner pulp which houses the blood and nerve supply of your tooth. Enamel is the outermost protective shell, as you move inwards the material becomes softer and looser, making the spread of infection progressively faster. The sooner we confront and treat tooth decay, the less costly and complicated the treatment will be. Maintaining good oral health is a partnership between you and your dentist. The best way to prevent tooth decay and other oral health complications is to maintain good oral hygiene and visit your dentist for a check-up and cleaning every six months.
